Where to start...the Midlife Gals or railing about health insurance? OK, well, there can’t be a single midlife woman out there who hasn’t been so mad at her health insurance company she could bite nails in two at one time or other. They are horrible, especially if you have an individual policy.
The Midlife Gals are two crazy, twisted sisters who are kinda like The Smothers Brothers with buzzoms. They live with and take care of The Ancient One, their mom, and offer their hilarious view of life through their blog and videos. In this essay, they have the health insurance companies in their sights. With good reason!
Oh, how they change! Anyone who’s a Mommy knows that your stock with your kids rises, falls, and morphs as they develop and mature. You’re the Bestest Mommy one day, and the next you’re toast. Who was it that said, “When I was 18 I couldn’t believe how stupid my parents were. When I was 22, I was shocked at how smart they’d become in just four years.” That pretty much sums it up.
Our WomenBloom member, Kelli Wiliams, is both Mommy and recently became Grammy. In this amusing essay, she describes the trajectory of her Mommy stock in her kids’ eyes.
In our article by Dr. Michelle Segar about midlife women and why we have trouble reaching our health and weight goals, she differentiates between ‘should’ based exercise and ‘want’ based exercise. Too often we set fitness goals based on what we think we SHOULD do instead of what we WANT to do, and what actually works for us.
This resonated strongly enough with our member Cara Holman that she decided to write an essay sharing her own experiences with it. Cara has inspired me to look at my own exercise activities differently!
