Hmmmm, seems like the opinions are maybe down the middle on this book. I'm reading this book and about to enter India. I have to say, the dreamer in me would love to be able to escape and leave my real world behind to seek my spiritual inner being and be able to find love in the process. But the kids, bills and extended family keep me gounded. However, in 5-10 years I will be in a position to be able to do something like this and maybe I will. If one has a chance or the inclination to pursue the courage to find themselves, I see nothing wrong with that. More power to them!!!

Well, I read this as well. The only part I didn't quite 'get' was why her marriage was so bad. That just didn't hang together for me and it did seem a bit hard on her hubby, not sure he understood it either.
But, I'm glad it all worked out for her. She's a great writer and what experiences she's had.
Drangel, you're right. She had no way of knowing it would turn out the way it did when she made the leap. I totally admire anyone with courage to do that, it takes some guts!
What's that zen saying, "Leap and net shall appear"? Not sure that's entirely true but it's a bewitching idea...and at its core I guess it's saying you just gotta go for it.
Ooh, wish you'd let us know how the India trip goes..

I was envious I couldn't go on a year-long spiritual journey, although as she has said every person's journey is different. Still, I enjoyed reading about it although my reaction was, you find God but you still have to find love, too?
A few months ago I was on a plane and noticed a couple of young 20-somethings were reading the book. The one next to me didn't read for long. I really think at that age it isn't going to make a whole lot of sense to them.
I didn't think about the husband before I read the comments here. Maybe it was too painful to share the reasons for the breakup. But as she admitted, she always had to have a man in her life. Maybe it just got to the point where she realized she didn't know or value herself at all.

It's possible, while she was writing the book, she didn't know why she felt the need to leave hubby. Sometimes, it takes a while to untangle why we do things. And actually, sometimes we NEVER know :)
I really believe that everyone is on their own path. It may not make sense to anyone else, but they are exactly where they need to be to learn the things they need to learn. Whenever I see a seeker, like EG is here, I admire them. It takes guts to seek instead of staying with the familiar and comfortable. Well, maybe the familiar is really UNcomfortable, but at least you know it for what it is:)
Going off in search takes some courage, so whether I understand her journey or not, I really admire her for setting out on it not knowing where it might take her.
And, GayleO, YES, wouldn't it be nice to have a year off to go a-seeking?? I'm right there on that. But, not gonna happen anytime soon.
